May 12, 2010: Sandoz says that Meclizine is no longer free of animal derived ingredients. It contains lactose and the polysorbate 80 is derived from a bovine source.
April 30, 2010: Applegate Farms Natural Havarti Cheese and Natural Emmentaler Swiss Cheese are no longer vegetarian because they are no longer made with vegetarian rennet.
March 3, 2010:Selsun Blue can no longer guarantee that ingredients in its shampoos aren't derived from animal sources.
January 14, 2010:The ingredient source for Tucks anti-hemorrhoidal ointment has changed and this product may now contain animal derived ingredients.
March 30, 2009: Dannon's Danimal Drinkable yogurts and Dannon's Frusion yogurts are no longer suitable for ovo-lacto vegetarians. The Danimals contain gelatin derived from cowhides and the Frusion yogurts contain carmine which is derived from beetles.
November 24, 2008: According to Johnson & Johnson/Merck, the following products all contain magnesium stearate derived from an animal source:
- Mylanta Ultra Tablets Cool Mint
- Children's Mylanta tablets - bubblegum flavor
- Pepcid AC - Complete chewable mint tablets
- Pepcid AC - 10 mg. Tablets
- Mylanta Maximum Strength Gas Mint Tablets
- Mylanta Liquid - maximum strength original flavor
- Mylanta Liquid - regular original flavor
November 19, 2008:Triaminic Cough and Runny Nose - daytime liquid (cherry flavor) is no longer a vegetarian product because it contains magnesium stearate from a bovine source. According to Novartis, the following products do not contain any animal derived ingredients or processing aids:
- TheraFlu Daytime Severe Cold & Cough Hot Liquid
- Triaminic Flu - Cough and Fever - liquid
- TheraFlu Nighttime Severe Cold and Cough Hot Liquid Formula
- Triaminic Chest and Nasal Congestion - liquid
